One focused hour, in person or online. We move through your space systematically, assessing everything from light and flow to proportion, balance and colour. Alongside that, we get to know you. How you use the space, what you're drawn to, what isn't working for you. The result is a clear, specific picture of what your home needs and why.

Leave with a plan.

Clear direction you can act on immediately, with or without us.

Your plan arrives as a professionally prepared Interior Proposal you can return to again and again. It includes a summary of the overall direction and annotated floor plans with specific adjustments labelled. Recommendations cover what to move, remove, and add, each with a priority level so you know exactly where to begin. Where purchases are suggested, you'll find a curated shortlist of options across a range of budgets.

Go as little or as far as you need.

Going further is always an option, never an obligation. Sourcing, procurement, styling. We're here for all of it.

For those who want to go further, we can take the plan and run with it. That means sourcing furniture, materials, lighting and accessories through our trade network, managing orders and procurement on your behalf, and styling your space once everything arrives. You're involved as much or as little as you'd like to be. We handle the complexity so you don't have to.

Rachel Flapan — Founder

I'm Rachel, an interior designer and stylist with six years of experience across residential decoration, property styling, and interior design. I founded Umber & Edge to make considered, personal design accessible, without the jargon, the overwhelm, or the guesswork.

I grew up in a small town in Colorado, where I spent my early years reimagining spaces around the house alongside my mum. Rearranging furniture, experimenting with colour, hunting for finds that punched above their price tag. Those projects were small, but they shaped something lasting: a belief that great design begins with intention, not impulse, and that a thoughtful eye matters far more than a generous budget.

After beginning my career in the United States, I relocated to Sydney in 2017. I hold a Diploma of Interior Design, bringing formal structure to the instinct and industry knowledge I've developed over the past six years.
