Rachel Flapan.

Rachel is an interior designer and stylist with six years of experience across residential decoration, property styling, and interior design. She founded Umber & Edge to make considered, personal design accessible online — without the jargon, the overwhelm, or the guesswork.

Her aesthetic centres on warmth and depth: spaces built around earthy, tonal palettes, layered textures, and pieces that feel collected rather than curated. There's always a nod to mid-century form — clean lines, honest materials, furniture with character — balanced against something softer and more lived-in. The result is interiors that feel genuinely personal, as though they've evolved naturally over time.

Rachel grew up in a small town in Colorado, where she spent her early years reimagining spaces around the house alongside her mum — rearranging furniture, experimenting with colour, hunting for finds that punched above their price tag. Those projects were small, but they shaped something lasting: a belief that great design begins with intention, not impulse, and that a thoughtful eye matters far more than a generous budget.

After beginning her career in the United States, Rachel relocated to Sydney in 2017. She holds a Diploma of Interior Design, bringing formal structure to the instinct and industry knowledge she's developed over the past six years.
